I'd like to hear what people are paying to running their own website at home.
A few years ago it would have cost me hundreds of dollars to get a business phone line that could handle the traffic, but now my cable company provides an appropriate connection (fast upload speeds, static IP, etc.) for $65 per month.
The only other expenses are the electricity (minimal cost) and my time.
I'm wondering what others' experience has been around the country.

I wouldn't suggest it, as DSL does not have a SLA. Its a best-effort service and will go down.

Another cost you need to figure in is a decent UPS (with sufficient battery).
A friend of mine (who used to host me), runs his server on Static IP DSL and its worked pretty well for him. He gets DSL through a small local ISP and they have really good uptime on the connection. Before that, he had ATT (previously SBC) DSL and it went down almost weekly (which is why I stopped using his server).

Overall, it depends on how critical uptime is to your web site and how much bandwidth you need. The upload capacity on DSL isn't a lot. IMO, downtime drives visitors away and I opted for a server at a Datacenter because they have a 99.9% Network and Power SLA.
